Former national rhythmic gymnast Dr Farrah-Hani Imran (pic) is the first national athlete to receive the surgical Professor Madya (Associate Professor) title from a public institution.
The 43-year-old was recognised last Friday (May 22) by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) after weeks of intense interviews with the university board.
Dr Farrah was the first Malaysian gymnast to compete at the 1993 World Championships in Alicante, Spain and is currently a senior lecturer at UKM and also the Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Burns Unit and Wound Care Team.
Dr Farrah-Hani graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (RCSI) in 2002 with the Association of Graduates Medal, where she also obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2005.
She completed her MS (Plastic Surgery) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2010. She is also completing her doctorate on mental health at University College Dublin.
