WOMEN’S doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing has no intention of quitting the national team.
Following a poor outing at the Uber Cup in Bangkok, the 25-year-old took to social media yesterday to address fans, who called for the shuttler to quit.
“Unfortunately, we did not perform to our best. We take full responsibility and will face the consequences.
“Thanks for all the support and criticism.
“But for those who have asked me to quit, I am sorry to disappoint. I am not as weak as you and will not quit when met with failure,” wrote the shuttler from Subang Jaya.
Mei Xing was the only other player in the squad who played in all three group matches against Denmark, Thailand and Egypt. The other was debutante Myisha Khairul.
Expectations were high for Mei Xing and her partner Anna Cheong to win a point for Malaysia in the opening tie against Denmark, but the Syed Modi International winners failed to subdue the scratch combination of Alexandra Boje-Amelie Magelund, losing 21-14, 21-10, as the Danes won the tie 3-2.
Mei Xing partnered with Valeree Siow for the tie against Thailand but again failed to make an impact. They lost 21-9, 21-14 to the Aimsaard sisters, Benyapa and Nuntakarn. Thailand won the tie 4-1.
Malaysia buried Egypt 5-0 in the final Group match, with Mei Xing-Anna scoring a 21-5, 21-4 win over Nour Ahmed Youssri-Hana Tarek Zaher, but it was a little too late as Malaysia were already out of contention for a quarter-final spot.
The last time the Malaysian women’s team cleared the group stage of the Uber Cup was in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur.
