MNFC want Fatehah as national-level coach
Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill would prefer former national rider Fatehah Mustapa to take up a national-level coaching role rather than a state-level position.
Amarjit disclosed that the former Asian Games silver medallist has also attracted interest from her home state, Terengganu.
The east coast state are a traditional powerhouse in the sport and have produced some of the biggest names in Malaysian cycling such as Fatehah, Azizulhasni Awang, Harrif Saleh and Anuar Manan among others.
“We have heard that Terengganu (Sports Council) have also asked her to go into coaching with them,” said Amarjit.
“I believe that it would be better for her to be part of the national coaching setup.
“With her (competitive) experience and years of training under (head coach) John Beasley, she will be an asset to the national team.
“That’s my take on it but ultimately it is up to Fatehah to decide. She might want to take some time off before making a decision.
“Fatehah will still need to complete some coaching courses before she can become a coach.
“Things have, of course, been moving rather slow due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) but hopefully we can speed things up once it is lifted.”
Fatehah, 31, had announced her retirement last month after spending 17 years in the sport.
