PSV Eindhoven sack manager Mark van Bommel

PSV Eindhoven have sacked manager Mark van Bommel due to “recent disappointing results”, the Dutch top-flight club said in a statement on Monday.

PSV, who were beaten 3-1 by rivals Feyenoord in the league on Sunday, are fourth in the table on 31 points, 10 fewer that first-placed Ajax Amsterdam, who are level on 41 with AZ Alkmaar in second.

Van Bommel, who has managed PSV since June last year, leaves after a run of six defeats, four draws and two wins in his last 12 games in all competitions.

“Performances and results have been far below what is expected at PSV,” the club’s general manager Toon Gerbrands said in a statement https://www.psv.nl/english-psv/news/article/psv-part-company-with-mark-van-bommel.htm. “Matches are measuring moments but we also keep a close eye on the progress down the road.

“Following a review of the current status in and around the first team, we have come to this painful decision. We have all tried hard to turn things around but unfortunately failed to do so.”

PSV said they would appoint a temporary replacement to Van Bommel later on Monday.
