Canoeing hits rough waters with no-confidence motion
Malaysia Canoe Association (Masca) Datuk Seri Megat D. Shariman Zaharudin is facing a no-confidence motion brought against him by nine of his 13 exco members, led by deputy president Datuk Michael Wong.
Michael, accompanied with some state affiliates, met Sports Commissioner Dr Wirdati Mohd Radzi at her office at the National Sports Council (NSC) in Bukit Jalil to discuss the matter.
“We submitted two petitions – one from the state affiliates and one from the exco members. We have lost confidence in our president and want an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) in the next 30 days.”
He said they wanted to set the house in order before the 2020 Johor Malaysia Games (Sukma) in July, which will offer 35 golds in caneoing.
“The sports commissioner will decide in the calling of the EGM, ” said Michael.
Megat, meanwhile, issued a statement saying he was disappointed with the action but would accept the exco members’ decision with an “open heart”.
“The no-confidence motion can be considered as an act to tarnish my name. I am disappointed, but I accept the decision. At the same time, I am trying to solve some mismanagement issues involving some individuals in the association.”
