Tough times will make diver Wendy tougher
NATIONAL diver Wendy Ng (pic) has given the thumbs-up to the new dates for the postponed Tokyo Olympics.
The Olympics, initially scheduled for July 24-Aug 9 this year, have been delayed to July 23-Aug 8 next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two-time Olympian Wendy feels that the new dates have given ample time for her to improve, especially after the national divers are barred from training due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).
“The new dates are certainly good because it means we have one more year to get better,” said the 26-year-old.
“Initially we were all quite worried when the MCO was implemented and that all training programes have to be stopped.
“But this is for the safety of everyone and not just us athletes. I’ve been doing my best to stay positive while staying at home.
“The first thing I did was to set a timetable for myself to stay active during this period so that I can quickly get back into training mode once the MCO is lifted.
“That has not changed even though it has been confirmed that the Olympics will not be held this year.
“The hard work, however, still continues even though we are all going through a hard time now.
“I certainly believe that hard times will make a person stronger, and I believe we’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.”
Wendy is no stranger to adversities, having overcome injuries in her career apart from an eight-month doping ban, en route to qualifying for the Olympics.
