Guru looks to Anawin to engineer wins for City
Petaling Jaya City captain and midfielder K. Gurusamy (pic) is zealously looking forward to linking up with former Thailand international Anawin Jujeen when the disrupted Super League resumes.
Gurusamy, also a former national player, said Anawin could bring about a change in the engine room of the City team who have collected three points from four matches when all football actions were stopped due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The only setback is that Anawin has yet to train or play for the team since his arrival.
“Anawin has not played or trained with us, so once we return to training, we have to work on our chemistry and make things tick in midfield. The team have lots of new players and we have done okay so far. Experienced players like Safee Sali, P. Rajesh and Christie Jeyaseelan are guiding the youngsters. So I am not too worried about teamwork.
“I believe in looking at the positive side of things and right now Covid-19 outbreak is very negative for us footballers as we are itching to play.”
The 33-year-old Anawin played for Thai club Buriram and spent almost a decade in the top tier of football in his homeland.
He comes with the credential of having played in the winger, wingback and fullback roles with the Thai national team.
Gurusamy hopes they will gel when they start playing together as he wants to help PJ City finish in the top four in the Super League.
“As for the knockout competitions like the FA Cup and Malaysia Cup, I do not know how the format of the competitions would be because of the suspension. So, we shall just wait and see.
“As for the national team, I would love to make a return. If I am called up, I would not say no to it. However, I need to be consistently good if I want to wear the yellow and black jersey of Malaysia again.”
The 31-year-old Gurusamy, who played for the Harimau Muda until 2011, is now back in Semenyih with his family.
“Usually I am in Kelana Jaya with my wife and two sons. This time, all of us are in Semenyih, and this is the longest time I have stayed here. It certainly feels good, ” he said.
“There are 10 people at home as my siblings, nieces and nephews also came to Semenyih during the movement control order imposed to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
“Every day, we would play board games, have karaoke sessions, dance with the kids, and I have even started cooking. My wife is a good cook, so she is teaching me some of her recipes. It has been a while since I had home-cooked food, ” said Gurusamy.
The former Selangor, Sarawak and PKNS player is keeping fit by following the programme for home-training provided by the City coaches during the lockdown period.
